Since two days ago was Halloween, the day we dress up and put on masks.
I thought we could explore the masks we wear every day of the year.
Many of us move through life feeling disconnected from ourselves because we’re pretending to be someone for others and it doesn’t feel authentic.
There are pressures to act a certain way, look certain ways to always be strong or happy or hold specific beliefs. Perhaps it’s time to reflect on the masks that you wear and why you wear them.
Have you fallen into wearing it out of habit? Who might you be trying to play? Sometimes we change and grow out of our constraining masks.
But we want to remind ourselves is we can always choose to take them on.
So take a moment now to contemplate what might you be wearing that you’ve outgrown?
And how would it feel to remove what would it mean to be exactly who you are?
It’s not always easy to be courageous and true to who we are. But it’s a relief when we can live authentically.
The whole world changes.
E. E. Cummings spoke of this beautifully. He said:
To be nobody but yourself in a world that is doing its best night and day to make you like everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight.
In my opinion… That’s a fight worth fighting.
Always choose to be yourself!
